Rowville train line a step closer

By Liam O'Boyle

Real estate in Rowville may recieve a boost due to the fact that the state government is planning a study that will look at the viability of a rail line through the suburb.

The Age newspaper reports that as Melbourne's use of public transport grows, so too will the efforts of the Baillieu government to address these concerns.

Rowville is one of a few suburbs where rail transport is on the agenda, with others including Doncaster, Avalon, Tullamarine and the Melbourne Metro stretching from South Yarra to Kensington.

It's hoped that a comprehensive rail project will provide an impetus for removing cars from the roads and getting more people to use public transport.

The Fairfax publication said the transport minister Terry Mulder pledged that maintenance was one of the top priorities, as reliability was crucial to ensuring a better service for passengers.

The newspaper claimed voters are more confident that the current government will administer transport effectively. Fairfax described how the Brumby administration failed to fix infrastructure, which was so timid that hot weather caused problems.
